Stride — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15th August 2026

Stride Limited (“Stride,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Stride mobile application and website (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Information you give us:

  • Account details — name, email address, date of birth, gender
  • Profile information — photos, bio, exercise interests, location (city/area)
  • Content you post — community feed posts, comments
  • Messages you send through Stride’s chat features

Information collected automatically:

  • Device information (device type, operating system, unique device identifiers)
  • Usage data (features used, time spent in app, crash logs)
  • Approximate location, where you’ve enabled location services, to support matching with nearby users

Information from third parties:

  • If you sign up or log in via a third-party service, we receive the profile information you’ve authorised that service to share

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Match you with other users based on shared interests and general location
  • Enable messaging and community feed functionality
  • Send you service-related communications (e.g. account notices, safety information)
  • Maintain the security and integrity of the Service
  • Improve and develop the Service

We do not use your information to make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on you.

3. How We Share Your Information

With other users: your profile information (name, photos, interests, general location) is visible to other users as part of the matching and community features — that’s the core function of Stride. Messages are only visible to you and the recipient.

With service providers: we use third-party providers to operate Stride, including:

  • Firebase (Google) — authentication, push notifications, analytics
  • Twilio — messaging infrastructure
  • DigitalOcean — hosting and data storage
  • MongoDB — database services

These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Legal disclosure: we may disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights, safety, or property of Stride or our users, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (including the type of sale process Stride is currently exploring).

4. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we’re required to retain it for legal, safety, or fraud-prevention purposes.

5. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Request a copy of your information in a portable format

UK/EU users: these rights are provided under UK GDPR / GDPR. New Zealand users: these rights are provided under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

6. International Data Transfers

Stride Limited is registered in New Zealand, and our service providers may store or process data in other countries, including the United States. Where we transfer personal information internationally, we take reasonable steps to ensure it receives an appropriate level of protection.

7. Children’s Privacy

8. Website Contact Form

If you contact us through the form on our website, we collect the information you provide (such as your name, email address, and message) in order to respond to you. We retain this information only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any related follow-up.

9. Cookies (Website)

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. Essential cookies needed for the site to function do not require consent.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We’ll post the updated version here with a new “Last updated” date, and where changes are material, we’ll make reasonable efforts to notify you.
