Stride — Terms of Service

Last updated: 15th August 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Stride mobile application, website, and related services (together, the “Service”), operated by Stride Limited (“Stride,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a company registered in New Zealand. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use Stride. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement and that all information you provide is accurate and current.

2. What Stride Does

Stride helps users find exercise partners by matching them based on shared interests, and includes a community feed, interest-based matching, and messaging features. Stride is a platform for connecting users — it does not organise, supervise, verify, or take part in any in-person meeting, activity, or exercise session arranged between users.

3. Your Responsibility for In-Person Meetings and Activities

This is the most important section of these Terms — please read it carefully.

3.1 Stride is a matching and communication tool only. Any decision to meet, exercise, or otherwise interact with another user in person is made entirely at your own discretion and own risk.

3.2 Stride does not conduct criminal background checks or independently verify users’ identities. Account, email, phone, or other technical verification measures, if offered, do not constitute an endorsement or guarantee of a user’s identity, character, safety, or suitability. A match, recommendation, profile suggestion, or other feature of the Service should not be interpreted as an endorsement, representation, or guarantee by Stride regarding another user’s identity, character, fitness, qualifications, intentions, or safety.

3.3 You are solely responsible for exercising caution, judgment, and appropriate safety measures when communicating with or meeting other users, including but not limited to:

  • Meeting in public places, especially for a first meeting
  • Telling a friend or family member where you are going and who you are meeting
  • Arranging your own transport to and from any meeting or activity
  • Assessing your own fitness and medical suitability for any exercise activity before undertaking it

3.4 We strongly recommend consulting a doctor or medical professional before beginning any new exercise activity, particularly one arranged with someone you have not previously exercised with.

3.5 Stride is not responsible for the conduct, whether online or in person, of any user. You assume full responsibility and risk for all interactions with other users.

3.6 Users should report conduct they believe is unsafe, abusive, fraudulent, or otherwise in breach of these Terms. Stride may investigate reports but does not guarantee that it will independently verify any report or take any particular action.

3.7 Stride is not an emergency service. If you believe you or another person is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency services.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
  • Harass, threaten, abuse, or harm another user
  • Impersonate any person or misrepresent your identity, age, or affiliation
  • Post content that is defamatory, obscene, hateful, or infringes another party’s rights
  • Use the Service to solicit money, promote a business, or advertise without our consent
  • Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or gain unauthorised access to the Service or its systems

We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate action against anyone who, in our sole discretion, violates this section — including removing content, issuing warnings, or suspending or terminating accounts.

5. User Content

You retain ownership of content you post to Stride (photos, profile information, messages, community posts). By posting content, you grant Stride a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, display, and distribute that content solely as necessary to operate, provide, improve, and secure the Service — for example, showing your profile and photos to other users as part of matching and the community feed. This licence does not extend to using your content for external marketing or promotional purposes without your separate consent. You are solely responsible for the content you post and confirm you have the right to share it.

6. Account Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms, or where we reasonably consider suspension or termination necessary to protect users, Stride, or the integrity or security of the Service. You may delete your account at any time through the app.

7. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY MATCH, USER, OR PIECE OF CONTENT IS ACCURATE, SAFE, OR APPROPRIATE.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STRIDE LIMITED AND ITS DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR ANY INTERACTION, MEETING, OR ACTIVITY WITH ANOTHER USER — INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR DEATH ARISING FROM AN IN-PERSON MEETING OR EXERCISE ACTIVITY ARRANGED THROUGH THE SERVICE.

TO THE EXTENT ANY LIABILITY CANNOT BE EXCLUDED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, STRIDE’S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED NZD $100.

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any right or remedy you may have under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986, the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, or any other consumer protection law applicable to you that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted. Where you are a consumer under such law, that law governs to the extent of any inconsistency with this section.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Stride Limited, its directors, employees, and agents from any claim, demand, loss, or damage, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of your breach of these Terms, your unlawful conduct, your infringement of any third party’s rights, or content you post.

10. Privacy

Our collection, use, storage, and disclosure of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

11. Changes to the Service or These Terms

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time; continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of material changes.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, without regard to conflict of law principles, subject to Section 8’s consumer rights carve-out for users protected by other applicable consumer law (including UK users). Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand, except where mandatory consumer protection law gives you the right to bring a claim in your own jurisdiction.
